Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have informed the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) that they have over 100 witnesses prepared to testify against President-elect Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The petitioners’ lawyer, Chris Uche, stated on Saturday that they plan to call a maximum of 100 witnesses. He further disclosed that the parties involved have reached an agreement on the number of witnesses and the allotted time for each witness.

“We have met and reached an agreement on the witnesses, their examination duration, and the process of examination, cross-examination, and re-examination,” Mr. Uche explained to the Court. “These agreements are subject to the court’s ratification.”

Mr. Uche also mentioned that it was proposed to allocate 30 minutes for the key witnesses of the respondents, including INEC, Mr. Tinubu, and his party, APC.

“We have proposed 30 minutes for the presentation of evidence and 30 minutes for cross-examination of the key witnesses for the respondents,” Mr. Uche revealed. He added that the petitioners suggested that there should be no cross-examination of a respondent witness by another respondent. Emphasizing the petitioner’s intention, he stated, “We intend to call no more than 100 witnesses.”

The chair of the five-member panel of justices, Haruna Simon Tsammani, adjourned the case until May 22, following a request by Roland Otaru to postpone the proceedings for the consolidation of petitions from the Labour Party and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Mr. Otaru, a lawyer on Mr. Tinubu’s legal team, requested the adjournment due to the absence of their lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun.
