Anambra State House of Assembly has today, Wednesday, 2nd August 2023, formally inagurated House Committee Members of the 8th Assembly in Awka.
The event which featured keynote presentation on the ethics and role of house Committee Chairmen, members and Clarks, question and answers was centered on getting the new legislative members acousted with the modus operandi of the house Committee duties and responsibilities.
In his opening remarks, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze emphasized the importance of fostering a partnership between house committee members with MDAs during oversight functions, rather than repulsive relationship.
He said that the inauguration of the special assembly committee members of the state 8th legislature is a milestone inauguration of the Anambra State Assembly.

Somtochukwu noted that section 103 of the Nigeria constitution as amended provides for the appointment of committees to which may be delegated certain functions of the legislature and asuch the Anambra State House of Assembly is united in its commitment to being an active partner with the Executive in driving progress and development in the state. “In order for various committee to operates simlessly without judicional clashes, it is important that house committee chairmen are guided by the provision of the standing order, he said.”
He urge the newly inagurated committee members to take advantage of the occasion to prepare to play integral roles in contributing to the growth and development in the overall interest of the state.

Speaking during a keynote presentation on the roles of the legislative committies, a former clerk of assembly, Mr. Pius Udoh stated that the duties of the House Committee members in ensuring good governance and effective representation can not be over emphasized. He urged members to be active, transparent, and committed in the discharge of their assignment to bring about the much needed development of the State.
Also speaking, Another former clerk of the assembly, Mr. Walter Adogu advised the committee Clarks to be proactive and add value to the work of the Chairman for effective functionality in their various committees.
Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on National and State Assembly Matters and former speaker of the 5th assembly, Rt. Hon Anayo Nnebe while commending the newly inagurated committee members for their commitment, advised the house members to enact laws and execute projects that will benefit constituents members. He urged the committee members to key into the development agenda of the gov soludo in building a better Anambra for all.
In a vote of thanks, the majority leader, Hon. Sir. Ofoedeme Ikenna thanked the speaker for organizing the esteemed Inauguration. He applauded the guest speakers for their comprehensive presentation and expositions and urge the honourable house members to effectively utilize the lessons obtained at the meeting judiciously in the discharge of their legislative functions.
