Anambra State House Of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources and other relevant agencies to ensure that security of lives and properties are top of the agenda before approving sites for the installation of LPG (Cooking Gas) Stations that are presently being recklessly installed across the state and also consider reviewing existing ones sited at residential areas.
The member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ejike Okechukwu who sponsored the motion in his submissions noted that the demand for LPG( Cooking Gas) has been on the increase due to high cost of DPK (Kerosene).
According to Hon. Okechukwu, the increase in demand for LPG has aroused the interest of investors to establish LPG (Cooking Gas) stations across the state.
Hon. Okechukwu lamented that most of the investors endangers the lives and properties of Ndi Anambra as they fail to consider or comply with security and safety standards while installing their gas station.
He pointed out that if proper regulatory measures are not put in place by the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources and other relevant agencies like the Anambra State Physical Planing Board, the resultant effect in cases of emergencies might be very disastrous.
Speaking in support of the motion, the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofoedeme, Chief Whip and member representing Ihiala One, Hon. Jude Ngobili, Minority Whip and member representing Orumba North, Hon. Paul Ogbu, member representing Anambra East, Hon. Obi Nweke, member representing Aguata One, Hon. Anthony Muobike, and member representing Onitsha South One, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, member representing Ihiala Two, Hon. Golden Iloh, member representing Idemili South, Hon. Ebuka Igwe in their separate submission urge governor to do the needful.

The Lawmakers noted that it is a proactive and life saving motion and called for the prompt review of the safety standards in siting Gas stations to avoid gas explosion like the one that happened last year, 2022 at Boromi roundabout that affected many buildings even 100s of meters away from the cite of incident.
They went further to emphasize the installation of Gas stations be properly monitored and regulated with additional provision of water sprayers in cases of emergencies, noting that a stitch in time saves nine and called on the State
