Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for works to as a matter of urgency commence the construction of a pedestrian bridge at the popular Regina Junction in Awka.
Hon. Noble Igwe the chief sponsor of the motion stated that the popular Regina Caeli junction needs urgent construction of a pedestrian bridge so as to forestall further loss of lives and properties.
Noble Igwe who is a member representing Ogbaru one constituency expressed worry stating that the rate of uncontrollable human and commercial activities along the junction is one that must be attended.
“From January 2023 till date, countless victims have lost their lives, many business properties lost and damaged to the uncontrollable human crossing activities, and more lives and properties will be lost if nothing is being done, he said.”
Seconding the motion, Member representing Oyi constituency, Hon. Innocent Ojike jike also supported the motion for the call on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner for works to faciliatate the construction of the regina caeli pedestrian bridge.
According to him, one of the major functions of the legislature is making and enforcing that will protect the lives and properties of the people, especially Ndi Anambra.
“Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo is doing well with the ongoing road projects but this particular pedestrian bridge at Regina is very important, he insisted.”
He went ahead to affirm that he has lots of project and good programs of infrastructural development and empowerment for Ndi Oyi given access to constituency fund.
In their separate submission, Member Representing Awka North constituency, Hon. Chimezie Ikwunne and Member Representing Anaocha two constituency, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi amongst others while noting the urgency of the motion supported the move and affirmed that the state government needs to initiate other protective measures to protect girls and women who ply the road to avoid abuse and molestation.
They advised Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo led administration to intervene on the life threatening situation.

In a separate motion, Member Representing Ihiala two constituency, Hon. Goldie Iloh also called for the resourcitation/reactivation of Oseakwa seaport located at Ihiala council area to increase the internal generated revenue (IGR), open up market and restore Anambra State to it possition as the commercial hub of southeast region as the take immediate action, the est. It became moribond after civil war while other seaport port were been activated and construction.
He urge the State Government to take up the challenge and invite and engage relevant stakeholders to achieve the project noting that it is only right to start from the known to unknown not the other way round
