The Anambra State Executive Council Committee on Clean and Green Anambra Initiative has organized a road show to sensitize residents and traders on proper waste disposal to promote a healthy living environmental.
The crusade against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road exercise which was tagged “Dobe Awka OCHA” was organized by the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA) in collaboration with the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Awka South Local Government Area and Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigad) commenced from Amaenyi-market through Zik Avenue to Eke Awka and ended in Amawbia.
Speaking to residents during the exercise, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim commended the ACTDA and ASWAMA managements for the sensitisation exercise noting that it would go a long way in reminding the capital city residents of the standard conduct expected of them.
He warned that the Soludo administration will no longer tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse at the market and environs, warning that ACTDA officials have been empowered to activate enforcement.
Appreciating, the chairman enforcement committee on law on prohibition of fraudulent practices on land and property Awka south local government, Prince ikechukwu Ndigwe commended the governor for his efforts in working to keep Awka capital and environs clean. He promised to support the exercise by setting up a taskforce to monitor and enforce compliance.
He however causioned against anti environmental activities and warmed residents to desist from littering the Awka Capital Territory with indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road medians.

In his remarks shortly after the exercise, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, said the “Dobe Awka OCHA” exercise is line with the state government’s objective to make Anambra clean and green through proper waste disposal; starting from the capital city.
He stressed the need of the residents of the capital city to key into the Clean and Green Initiative (CGI) of the government of Anambra State.
“Our job is clear and that is to work with necessary agencies to make sure that in the nearest future, Awka becomes the cleanest capital territory in the whole of Nigeria and Mr Governor, Prof. Charles C. Soludo has given us a mandate to deliver. The Operation ‘Dobe Awka Ocha’ is here to stay and we want our people to comply with the state government and help build a prosperous city that we all will be proud of, he said”
Mr. Onuko, who also chairs the Anambra State Committee on Clean and Green Awka, emphasized that government has continued and will continue to do its part by providing waste bins at strategic positions, adding that the gains of environmental cleanliness are enormous, including healthy living. He called for joint efforts in building a clean, green, peaceful, livable and prosperous smart mega city.
