The membership of Obosi Development Union has organized a general election to elect central executives to mount the hem of affairs of the community after the elapsed tenure of the past executives members and the demise of the former president general.
The election which took place yesterday 19th August, 2023 at Obosi town hall in Idemili North Local Government Area Of Anambra State had in attendance nominated delegates from the 16 branches of the Union all over the Federation.
The accredited delegates totalled is 156 as revealed by the 2023 Obosi Town Union election committee.
The positions contested for are President General, , Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President, Fourth Vice President, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General and Social Secretary.
Others positions includes Assistant Social Secretary, Provost Marshall, Publicity Secretary, Treasurer, Legal Adviser, Provost 2, Provost 3 and Auditor2
In a brief welcome address before the election, the Chairman of the election Committee, Sir Dan Igbokwubili revealed that all plans and arrangements for the success of the election are geared towards the betterment of the good people of Obosi, pointing out that all branches of the Union was allocated ten delegates each and commended the candidates for the their zeal and commitment towards building a good and livable town.
While commending the state government for providing a conducive atmosphere and safe environment, Sir Dan assured that the election will be transparent.
Speaking shortly after the election, the new Obosi President General (PG), Barrister Chimezie Obi in his acceptance speech expressed his happiness over the landslide victory, dedicating the victory to the entire Obosi community.
While commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his giant stride on security and Infrastructural development, Barrister Obi extended his hand of fellowship to other candidates who contested alongside with him for the position of the president general to join him in moving Obosi forward. He also pledged to work with his team to bring about the much desired transformational leadership and development expected by the entire Obosi people.
Barrister Obi also went further to affirm that his administration will collaborate with the State Government, Igwe of Obosi and his cabinet and other relevant stakeholders to pursue peace and security which will inturn bring about unity, progress and development of the entire Obosi Kingdom and Anambra as a whole.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne represented by Mr. Tony Onyekammelu commended the Obosi community for their good conduct during the election. He expressed his satisfaction with the process and urge the people to support the new executives to succeed.
Earlier, the President ODU Abuja Branch, Barr. Ifeanyi Augustine Obaemeka while commending Governor Soludo for providing a safe and peaceful environment for the election, noted that the collaboration between the Home Based ODU Executive and other branches will ensure the Akuo luono initiative echoed by Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Barrister Ifeanyi went further to commend the electoral committee for their preparation and for ensuring a free and fait election. He noted that much are expectating from the new executives and called on Ndi Obosi to support the new PG and his executives to to succeed.
Contributing, the immediate past secretary, ODU Awka branch, Nze Chisom Tim Onugha commended the process, noting that it is the first time a debate is introduced in the Election process to allow the Contestants sell out their manifesto to the people, pointing out that the election is in line with the constitution that allows for elections after four years, noting the reason why the entire union converged to elect credible leadership team that will represent the interest of Obosi people.
Nze Onugha urge the new executives to work with understanding and carry their subject along to bring about the much needed development. He also advised the new town leaders to make Obosi proud at home, at the national level and in diaspora like other illustrious sons of the community.
In his separate remarks, the Igwe of Obosi, HRH Chidubem Iweka while expressing confidence on the integrity of the new president general congratulating the new executives and urge them to perform well in their various offices and focus on restoring the glory of Obosi.
Igwe Iweka also went further to advised the youths to focus on education which the Obosi people are known rather than indulge in vices and other forms criminality that are contrary to the norms of the society. He however urge the youths to also focus on personal development by earning skills and learning new trade that will transform their lives and the entire Obosi positively.
