The Anambra State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma has held the occasion of 2023 Batch B stream one swearing-in orientation ceremony.
The event which featured special parade, commendations and swearing in of the new corps members took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp Umuawulu/Mbaukwu Awka South local government council of Anambra State.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the State Coordinator, NYSC Anambra, Mrs Blessing Iruma who thanked Governor Soludo noted that the purpose of the Orientation Course is to properly introduce and acquaint the corps members with the ideals and objectives of NYSC programme and is also an opportunity for them to learn important skills
According to her, the corps members were responding and participating in the various activities on camp and they had shown enough disciplined which were helpful to the running of the day -to-day activities of the Camp.
Mrs. Iruma also disclosed that at the
close of registration midnight, Thursday a total of 1,610 Corps Members, comprising 702 males and 908 registered.
She went further to appeal to the Anambra State Government to speedily intervene in the erosion menace currently threatening the structures of the orientation camp noting that the erosion menace was seriously hindering the smooth operations of the camp, depleting the agency resources and eating up most of the landscape and also pulling down walls and other structures in the camp.
Also speaking, the Chairman NYSC governing board and Commissioner for Youth Development Anambra state, Mr Patrick Aghamba reminded the corps members that the orientation course is to equip them physically and mentally to face the challenges they may encounter while carrying out the mandatory one year service to their father land, urging them to participate actively in all the trainings.

In his remarks, Governor Soludo represented by his Chief of staff, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi reassured total commitment towards creating an enabling environment for the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC scheme to thrive in the state. He said, he will continue to provide necessary infrastructure, security and welfare support to ensure the safety and well-being of the corps members.
Governor Soludo also stated that the government will explore more opportunities for skills acquisition, entrepreneurship training and empowerment programmes to enhance self reliance of corps members after their service year.
The governor further advised the corps members to embrace the core values of NYSC which include discipline, integrity, teamwork, patriotism and tolerance and expressed appreciation to NYSC stakeholders for their support and collaboration to ensure success of the scheme in Anambra state, adding that it has, over the years, been instrumental in promoting unity, cultural integration and national development and promised to liase with the coordinator to find out lasting solution to the erosion menace in the camp.
