JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Oct 11 (Reuters) – The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated, with Israeli forces launching shelling attacks on southern Lebanese towns in response to a rocket attack by the powerful armed group, Hezbollah. This cross-border violence has extended into its fourth day, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation.
Hezbollah stated that it fired precision missiles at an Israeli position in retaliation for the killing of its members in Israeli shelling earlier in the week. The group vowed to deliver “decisive” responses to any attacks on Lebanese territory, especially those resulting in casualties.
The Israeli military confirmed that they had conducted an airstrike on a Hezbollah position and “attacked” Lebanon after a military post near the Israeli town of Arab al-Aramshe was targeted with anti-tank fire. However, details regarding casualties have not been immediately provided.
Hezbollah reportedly launched two precision missiles into Israel, emphasizing its longstanding animosity toward the country. Israeli artillery rounds struck the rocket launch point around Dhayra, across from Arab al-Aramshe, according to Lebanese sources.
Residents of the southern Lebanese town of Rmeish reported Israeli shelling in their vicinity, and images of white smoke rising from wooded areas near homes and farmland in Dhayra were broadcast on local television.

This recent surge in violence in the region has evoked memories of the summer of 2006 when Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel engaged in a month-long war.
It’s worth noting that Hezbollah and the Palestinian faction Hamas have both claimed attacks originating from Lebanon. Hezbollah released a video showing the destruction of an Israeli tank after firing a guided missile, while Hamas stated it launched a salvo of rockets from Al-Koleilah into Israel.
The Lebanese army, meanwhile, confirmed on Wednesday that they had discovered the platform from which rockets were launched in Al-Koleilah.
This latest outbreak of violence along the Israel-Lebanon border comes after Hamas initiated a deadly attack against Israel over the weekend, which resulted in Israel launching a bombing campaign against Gaza.
